Convert an HSBC UK CSV for Xero or QuickBooks

HSBC UK · Online Banking CSV export

HSBC's CSV download is about as minimal as they come, and it commonly arrives with no header row. Import it straight into accounting software and you will usually get either a rejection or a quietly swallowed first transaction.

Exporting from HSBC online banking

Open the account, choose to download transactions, set the date range and select CSV. HSBC also offers QIF and OFX. Note that HSBC limits how far back you can download in one go, so long histories may need several exports; the Pro tier's batch mode exists partly for exactly this.

What the export looks like

Usually three unlabelled columns: date, description, and a signed amount with money out negative. Dates are UK day-first, sometimes written as 12 Mar 2026 rather than with slashes. The converter reads both.

Convert it

  1. Drop the file into the converter. Processing is local to your browser.
  2. Set First row to Data if the first line is a transaction. Columns appear as Column 1, Column 2, Column 3.
  3. Map Column 1 to Date, Column 2 to Description or Payee, Column 3 to Amount.
  4. Set Dates in file to DD/MM/YYYY, then download Xero CSV, QuickBooks CSV or OFX (currency GBP).
