BNZ internet banking exports transaction history as CSV from each account's search view. The export is rich in narrative fields, which is great for reconciliation once mapped properly. Here is the export path and the conversion to Xero, QuickBooks or OFX, all in your browser.
In BNZ internet banking, open the account, use the transaction search, choose your date range, and export as CSV. Business and personal accounts can differ slightly in which columns appear, so glance at the header row of your download before converting.
BNZ files typically carry a signed Amount, a Date, and separate narrative fields like Payee, Particulars, Code and Reference. Map Payee to Payee, Particulars to Description and Reference (or Code) to Reference. The converter auto-detects most of this and you can adjust any column by hand. Keep date reading on DD/MM for NZ files.
For Xero bank rules, keeping Payee and Particulars in separate output columns (rather than one combined narrative) makes matching far more reliable, so map both.
