Convert an ANZ Australia CSV for Xero or QuickBooks

ANZ Australia · Internet Banking CSV export

ANZ Australia's export is compact, which sounds helpful until you notice it often ships without a header row and puts everything descriptive into one long text field. Here is how to get it into an accounting import cleanly.

Exporting from ANZ Internet Banking

Open the account, go to the transaction history or search view, choose your date range and export as CSV. ANZ also offers OFX and QIF on some accounts. If OFX is available and your software takes it, that is the shortest path; use this converter when you need CSV, a different date convention, or a consistent format across several banks.

What the export looks like

Expect three columns in roughly this order: date, signed amount, and a single description field that mashes together the merchant, the transaction type and any reference. Dates are day-first Australian format.

Convert it

  1. Drop the file into the converter. Everything happens in your browser.
  2. If the first row is a transaction rather than column names, set First row to Data.
  3. Set Dates in file to DD/MM/YYYY.
  4. Map the description column to Description, check the preview, and download Xero CSV, QuickBooks CSV or OFX.
